Headlands: Day 4

Day 4: Having settled on the bee and the hive as an emblem of our exploration, we began the day with some group reading, including a lecture on the nature of platonic love among the bees and their relationship with the greater structure of the cosmos, by Rudolph Steiner. We sampled some of the supposedly toxic honey from the walls (the bees have been swarming in years worth of lead paint), results from our controlled experiment are pending.

Some of us are more attentive to the reading than others.

Sam brings up some of his friends from OPEN Restaurant to talk about their plans for OPEN Water, a series of meals focusing on water, in particular the journey following the salmon from the bay to their spawning point, illustrating the challenges faced both environmentally and politically around this common resource. This lead to an animated discussion across the board from the morality of stealing from work to the idea of the contract and its limitations in orienting ethical action in a given situation to ideal dining experiences and variations on the scripted performance that occurs in those eatery settings.
